Course Type: Part Time / Full Time

This course gives you a general understanding of the health and social care sector. It is suitable for individuals interested in working in health and social care, or who are already working in the sector and wish to develop their knowledge and skills. This course offers a broad introduction to the health and social care sector and gives students the opportunity to develop personal and basic skills including communications, application of number and Information Technology.

 Subjects:

·         Communications and individual rights

·         Individual needs within care settings

·         These are optional subjects:

·         Cultural diversity in health and care

·         Health and social care services

·         Human lifespan development

·         Human Physiology

·         Lifestyle

·         And many more units related to health care

 Progression

This can lead to an Access to Nursing, Access to Social Work, BTEC National Diploma or an NVQ Level 2 or 3. It can also lead to employment opportunities as a health care assistant or support worker.

 Entry requirements:

You will need to have completed a BTEC Introductory Diploma or equivalent with a pass at merit or above, complete an assessment test and attend an interview

Course Type: Part Time/ Full Time

This course is a work-based course and provides the knowledge and skills necessary to develop your practice. Your knowledge and skills are assessed both at College and in the workplace. The course comprises of four core units and two optional units related to your job role.

    Promote effective communications

·         Reflective practice

·         Equality, diversity and rights

·         Protection from abuse

·         Safety and security in the workplace

 

Progression

This can lead to higher education. Some candidates have also been promoted at work as a result of the course.

Entry requirements

You will need to be working as a support worker or in a supervisory capacity, have written confirmation from an employer to confirm your job role and an agreement that you can be observed and assessed in the workplace.

Duration: one year

Course type: part time / full time:

This qualification is for those working in a Leadership role or holding a manager position within the sector in England. The qualification is open to learners aged 19+ without prior learning or achievement of other qualifications. It is best suited to those who are already working in a management role working with adults in a care home or care setting; or those that are responsible for planning services, measuring performance and delivering continuous improvement in care services

·         Can be delivered in bite-size chunks, allowing for flexible learning.

·         Provide accreditation for those working in a management role in the health and social care sector.

·         The qualifications comprise units developed by the Sector Skills Council.

·         Tailored to those in a management role that are working in a care setting with Adults.

  

Children and Young People Workforce Level 2

Course type: Part time / Full time

These qualifications are for practitioners or those who are looking to enter the workforce and have access to a work placement within this area. The qualifications are flexible in structure enabling the organisation and individual to choose the optional units which best suit their work situation and job role. The recognition of these qualifications in relation to the Children and Young People's Workforce is applicable in England only.

·         An introduction to working with children

·         The developing child

·         Safe, healthy and nurturing environment for children

·         Children and play

·         Communication and professional skills within child care and education

·         The child care practitioner in the workplace

·         And many more subjects related to child care

 

Progression

These qualifications are for practitioners or those who are looking to enter the workforce and have access to a work placement within this area. The qualifications are flexible in structure enabling the organisation and individual to choose the optional units which best suit their work situation and job role. The recognition of these qualifications in relation to the Children and Young People's Workforce is applicable in England only.

·         Work with babies and young children to promote their development and learning  

·         Care for the physical and nutritional needs of babies and young children

·         Lead and manage a community based early years setting

·         Promote young children’s physical activity and movement skills.

 

·         Understand how to set up a home based child care service.

·         Support young people to develop, implement and review a plan of action

·         And many more advance subjects related to child care

 

Progression

This can lead to higher education relating child care development. Some candidates have also been promoted at work as supervisor a result of the course.

Children and Young Workforce Level 5

Duration: one year

Course type: part time / full time:

The Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for the Children and Young People's Workforce (England) and the Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Children's Care, Learning and Development (Wales and Northern Ireland) are the ideal qualifications if you work as a senior practitioner, deputy manager or assistant manager within Early Years and Children and Young Peoples’ settings, including:

·         Integrated children’s centres

·         Approved home care

·         Out of school settings

·         Day nurseries or creches

·         Family centres

·         Cylchoedd meithrin

·         Playgroups.
